Mental Health First Aiders
At Hannah Ball Academy, we are proud to have a wide range of staff that are trained and able to support young people through difficult times.
The staff on the poster below have the following skills:
- An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
- Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support, whether that is self-help resources, the NHS or other means.

Senior Mental Health Lead at GJA

Miss Powell is the Senior Mental Health Lead at Hannah Ball Academy. She has undertaken numerous training courses on mental health for pupils and staff, and has completed the course called 'Establishing a Whole School Approach' to wellbeing. The aim of the whole school approach is that our whole community are knowledgeable and committed, talk freely about mental health, have a positive culture and to reduce the stigma around mental health, and do this collaboratively. It also aims for the whole community to raise quality and standards across the entire school for wellbeing.

Association of Mental Health in Education
Hannah Ball Academy is proud to be a member of the Association of Mental Health in Education for the academic year 2025-2026.
